Shirley Norman Alley Obituary

Shirley Norman Alley

Born February 25, 1945, Oran, Algeria

died January 25, 2023 @ 8:33am in Our Home in Fruit Heights, UT

married to Charles Edward Alley Jr on May 27, 1969, Ogden, UT

hobbies, accomplishments, passions: Shirley earned a BA in Political Science from Southern Colorado State College, aka Colorado State University-Pueblo.  She was Ed’s college friend, lover and spouse.  She was mother of two daughters, grandmother of four grandchildren, wild child and first daughter to her parents, sister to five siblings, and aunt and great aunt of all her siblings’ children.

Shirley was a perpetual supporter of ASPCA, St. Jude’s Hospital, and The Democratic Party, and (just as important) etc., etc., etc.  She loved politics and despised ignorant politicians.  She was an avid reader and watcher–consuming everything from ancient and modern history to literature more suited to be enjoyed beach side.  She truly enjoyed sitting on the terrace with a glass (or two) of an adult beverage while telling Ed where to put this and that. She cherished travelling with her beloved Ed, as well as family, friends, and the “group of ladies”. She was in her element being an inhabitant with the dogs. Shirley was an ardent supporter, advocate, activist, and ally for women and women rights as well as the LGBTQ+ community, and all of those whose voices do not have a seat at the table.

preceded in death by her mother: Pierrette Montagud Caplong Norman, father: Austin Hampton Norman, US Army (Lt Col), sister: Pamela Bargar, and the daughter of her life-long friends: Barbara Alibhai (nee Mey).

survived by The Martin’s: Crista & Michael (Phoenix Isabel and Castor Olivia)  – The Jauch’s: Aicha & Joseph (Shaun and Arianne) – The Bargar’s: Carl, William & family, Sabrina & family – The Smith’s:  Pierrette & Gerald, Brittany & family – The Lawrence’s:  Dora & Terry, Samantha & family – The Hanna’s: Georgette & Jerrold, Austin & family, Janae & family, Claire – The Singleton’s: Jeannette & Scott, Curtis, Hailey & Family, and The Mey’s: Peter & Eliane, Michel & family, Nathalie & family, Amir Alibhai & family, and close friends: Zoe McAtee, Hawley Wallace, Jennifer Langan, Morgan Willcox and many other personal and family friends.
